Exercise DHARMA GUARDIAN

On 21st February 2025, a 120-member Indian Army contingent left for Japan to participate in the 6th edition of Exercise DHARMA GUARDIAN, a joint military drill aimed at enhancing interoperability and counter-terrorism capabilities.

  • The exercise will take place at the East Fuji Maneuver Training Area in Japan from February 24 to March 9, 2025.
  • The primary objective is to strengthen coordination between Indian and Japanese forces in urban warfare and counter-terrorism operations under a UN mandate.
  • The drill will emphasize physical fitness, joint mission planning, and tactical execution to enhance cooperation between the two nations.
  • The Indian Army contingent is primarily represented by a battalion from the MADRAS Regiment, along with personnel from other arms and services.
  • Japan’s Ground Self-Defence Force (JGSDF) will be represented by the 34th Infantry Regiment with a similar number of troops.
  • The exercise will cover joint tactical drills, combat simulations, and disaster response strategies to refine operational effectiveness.
