On 28th January 2025, Christine Carla Kangaloo, President of Trinidad and Tobago, received the Pravasi Bharatiya Samman Award for her contributions to public affairs and enhancing India’s global prestige.

  • The Pravasi Bharatiya Samman, India’s highest honour for overseas Indians, was conferred upon President Kangaloo at a Republic Day reception hosted by the High Commission in Trinidad and Tobago.
  • President Kangaloo, an Indo-Trinidadian, served as the chief guest at the 18th Pravasi Bharatiya Divas Convention held in Bhubaneswar, Odisha, from January 8–10, 2025.
  • In her speech, Kangaloo emphasized the historical ties between India and Trinidad and Tobago, which began in 1845 with the arrival of Indian indentured workers.
  • She highlighted India's contributions to the world, including advancements in education, medicine, mathematics, navigation, and cultural elements like chess and the decimal system.
  • President Kangaloo expressed gratitude for the award, acknowledging the Indian diaspora’s resilience and its critical role in shaping Trinidad and Tobago’s cultural and economic identity.
