Phillip Noyce Honoured with Satyajit Ray Award at IFFI

On 28th November, 2024, Acclaimed Australian filmmaker Phillip Noyce received the Satyajit Ray Lifetime Achievement Award for his outstanding contributions to cinema at the closing ceremony of the 55th International Film Festival of India (IFFI) in Goa.

Phillip Noyce expressed admiration for Indian cinema and its audience, reminiscing about his first experience of Indian films in Mumbai in 1978, which he described as transformative.
Acknowledging Satyajit Ray’s enduring influence, Noyce credited the legendary filmmaker for shaping his cinematic approach, particularly in casting authentic, real-life actors in Australian cinema.
Highlighting the future of filmmaking, Noyce championed Ray’s philosophy of “less is more,” emphasizing the need for smaller, idea-driven movies as technology advances.
Noyce praised IFFI Festival Director Shekhar Kapur for his contributions to global cinema, calling him an inspiration to filmmakers worldwide.
Known for films like Patriot Games, Clear and Present Danger, and The Bone Collector, Noyce’s career has been marked by collaborations with stars like Nicole Kidman, Denzel Washington, and Angelina Jolie.
