In October 2024, the Department of Pension and Pensioners’ Welfare (DoPPW) announced new guidelines for providing compassionate allowances to eligible central government pensioners.

  • Central government pensioners aged 80 and older are set to receive an additional compassionate pension to assist with rising living costs.
  • Pensioners between the ages of 80 and 85 will receive 20% of their basic pension as an additional compassionate allowance.
  • Those who are aged 85 to 90 will qualify for 30% of their basic pension under this new scheme.
  • For pensioners aged 90 to 95, the additional compassionate allowance will be set at 40% of their basic pension.
  • Pensioners aged 95 to 100 will receive 50% of their basic pension as compassionate allowance.
  • For pensioners who are 100 years old or older, they will receive a full 100% of their basic pension in compassionate allowance.
  • The compassionate allowance will come into effect from the first day of the month in which the pensioner reaches the specified age, ensuring timely support for those in need.
