On 16th Oct 2024, the Indo-Turkiye Friendship Association (ITFA) was announced in Hyderabad, aimed at strengthening collaboration across trade, culture, tourism, and education.

  • The newly established ITFA will work towards bolstering India-Turkiye ties in key sectors, emphasizing cultural and economic exchange.
  • The Consul General of Turkiye in Hyderabad, Orhan Yalman Okan, highlighted that ITFA will play a pivotal role in making Hyderabad a prime destination for Turkish tourists and aims to build on the 3.5 lakh Indian tourists who visited Turkiye in 2023.
  • Turkiye is one of the top three tourist destinations globally, following France and Spain, with expectations for further growth in Indian visitors to reach 4 lakh soon.
  • The association will foster cultural ties, including support for Telugu filmmakers shooting in Turkiye, which is seeing a growing trend in Tollywood film productions thanks to financial incentives offered to foreign filmmakers.
  • The introduction of Turkish language courses at Maulana Azad National Urdu University in Hyderabad is part of the expanding cultural and educational exchange between the two nations.
