CIFE and VAMNICOM Partner for Fisheries Development

On 26th August 2024, in a major step towards advancing cooperative management in India's fisheries sector, the Central Institute of Fisheries Education (ICAR-CIFE) and the Vaikunth Mehta National Institute of Cooperative Management (VAMNICOM) signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) in Mumbai.

  • The partnership aims to support the establishment of 2 lakh Primary Agricultural Credit Societies (PACS), Dairy, and Fishery Cooperatives in every Panchayat across the country.
  • Fisheries in India provide livelihoods to 14.46 million people, making this collaboration crucial for enhancing the sector's integration with advanced technology and value addition.
  • The MoU focuses on exploring new opportunities in fishery cooperatives through education, research, capacity building, and consultancy initiatives led by both ICAR-CIFE and VAMNICOM.
  • The MoU is expected to strengthen synergies between the two institutions, significantly improving cooperative management practices within the fisheries sector.
