Sanjeev Raina Appointed as ITBP ADG

  • 27 Aug 2024

On 21st August, 2024, Sanjeev Raina, a 1987-batch officer of the Indo-Tibetan Border Police (ITBP), has been promoted to Additional Director General (ADG), marking the second time a non-IPS officer has reached this rank in the force.

  • Sanjeev Raina, previously serving as Inspector General (IG) in Bhopal, has been elevated to the rank of Additional Director General (ADG) in the ITBP, overseeing the western command.
  • His promotion to ADG is significant as it is only the second time a non-Indian Police Service (IPS) officer has been promoted to this rank in the history of the ITBP, a force primarily responsible for guarding the India-China Line of Actual Control (LAC).
  • The western command of the ITBP, which Raina will now head, is responsible for managing deployments along the LAC in critical regions such as Ladakh, Uttarakhand, and Himachal Pradesh, as well as overseeing units in Punjab, Delhi, and Jammu and Kashmir.
  • The rank piping ceremony for Raina’s elevation was held at the ITBP headquarters in New Delhi, attended by the Director General (DG) Rahul Rasgotra and other senior officers, marking the formal recognition of his new role.
  • The ADG position in the ITBP is typically occupied by IPS officers on deputation, making Raina's promotion an exceptional event within the central armed police forces (CAPFs).
