Vinay Mohan Kwatra

Vinay Mohan Kwatra assumed office as India’s Ambassador to the United States on August 12, 2024, succeeding Taranjit Singh Sandhu.

Kwatra, 61, previously served as Minister of Commerce and has held ambassadorial roles in France and Nepal before his appointment as Foreign Secretary.
He replaces Taranjit Singh Sandhu, who retired earlier this year after a four-year term as India’s top diplomat in Washington, D.C.
Kwatra is expected to present his credentials to U.S. President Joe Biden soon, marking the official start of his diplomatic mission.
Kwatra's prior experience includes significant roles in commerce and foreign affairs, underscoring his extensive diplomatic background.
