IN-SPACe Invites NGEs for GSO Satellite Project

  • 06 Aug 2024

On 31st July, 2024, the Indian National Space Promotion and Authorisation Centre (IN-SPACe) issued an announcement of opportunity (AO) inviting non-government entities (NGEs) to establish and operate a geosynchronous orbit (GSO) communication satellite system, opening new avenues for private participation in India’s space sector.

  • The AO aims to identify a company that can own and operate a GSO satellite, enhancing India’s capabilities in space communications.
  • Interested NGEs can apply for access to the International Telecommunication Union (ITU) filing, which is essential for establishing and operating space objects in GSO.
  • The satellite system will support various applications, including broadcasting, broadband services, meteorology, and global positioning.
  • IN-SPACe is focusing on unutilized and underprocessed Indian ITU filings, which are currently in the coordination stage under Indian administration.
