The "VIRAASAT" exhibition, a two-week event celebrating India’s rich handloom tradition, has commenced at Handloom Haat, Janpath, New Delhi, and will run until August 16, 2024.

  • Organized by the National Handloom Development Corporation Ltd (NHDC) under the Ministry of Textiles, "VIRAASAT" coincides with the 10th National Handloom Day, observed on August 7.
  • The exhibition provides a platform for handloom weavers and artisans to directly engage with consumers, showcasing a diverse range of handloom products from across India.
  • The exhibition also commemorates the Swadeshi Movement, which began on August 7, 1905, advocating for indigenous industries and supporting handloom weavers.
  • Since the first National Handloom Day was celebrated in 2015, the day has honoured the handloom weaving community's vital role in India’s socio-economic development.
  • India’s handloom sector, employing 3.5 million people, is integral to the nation's cultural heritage, with the exhibition highlighting unique products such as Banarasi, Jamdani, Ikat, and Tussar Silk.
