On 4th August, 2024, President Droupadi Murmu began a six-day visit to Fiji, New Zealand, and Timor-Leste, marking the first-ever visit by an Indian Head of State to these countries.

  • She will visit Fiji from August 5-7, where she will meet with President Wiliame Maivalili Katonivere and Prime Minister Sitiveni Rabuka, and address the Fijian Parliament.
  • This visit to Fiji is historic as it marks the first time an Indian Head of State has traveled to the island nation.
  • On August 8-9, President Murmu will visit New Zealand, where she will meet Governor-General Cindy Kiro, Prime Minister Christopher Luxon, and Deputy Prime Minister Winston Peters.
  • The New Zealand visit is the first presidential trip from India to the country in eight years, and Governor-General Kiro will host a banquet in her honor.
  • The final leg of the tour will take her to Timor-Leste on August 10, where she will hold a bilateral meeting with President Horta and engage with the local Indian community.
  • The Rashtrapati Bhavan highlighted that this tour is significant for strengthening diplomatic ties and expanding India's global outreach.
