On July 5th, 2024, senior Indian Information Service (IIS) officer Dhirendra Ojha has been appointed as the principal spokesperson of the central government and will also hold the charge as Director General of Press Information Bureau (PIB).

  • Dhirendra Ojha will succeed Sheyphali B Sharan, who has been appointed as the director general of the Publications Division.

Central Bureau of Communication (CBC)

  • CBC was set up on 8th December, 2017 by integration of erstwhile Directorate of Advertising and Visual Publicity (DAVP), Directorate of Field Publicity (DFP) and Song & Drama Division (S&DD).
  • It acts as an advisory body to Government on media strategy.
  • It has 23 Regional Outreach Bureaus (ROBs) and 148 Field Outreach Bureaus (FOBs).
  • CBC is engaged in educating people, both rural and urban, about the Government’s policies and programmes to evoke their participation in developmental activities.
  • The Bureau uses different vehicles of communication viz. Print Media advertising, Audio Visual Campaigns, dissemination through Exhibitions, Outdoor Campaigns and New Media etc.
