INS Ranvir Visit Bangladesh

On June 29th, 2024, Indian Navy Destroyer INS Ranvir arrived in Chattogram for a week-long goodwill visit.

Key Points

  • It s a ‘Guided Missile Destroyer’ and forms part of the front line combatant fleet of the Indian Navy on the Eastern Seaboard.
  • During the visit personnel from the Indian and Bangladesh navies will engage in wide range of professional interactions including Subject Matter Expert Exchange (SMEE), cross-deck visits, community outreach and friendly sports fixtures.
  • On completion of harbour phase, INS Ranvir will participate in a Maritime Partnership Exercise (MPX)/ PASSEX with ships of the Bangladesh Navy.

INS Ranvir

  • INS Ranvir, the first of the Ranvir class destroyers, was commissioned into the IndianNavy on 21 April 1986.
  • The ships were built in the former Soviet Union.
  • The role of Ranvir class ships involves protection such as anti-aircraft and anti-submarine warfare for carrier task force defense against submarines, low-flying aircraft, and cruise missiles.
