Cyril Ramaphosa: Reelected as President of South Africa

On June 14th South African President Cyril Ramaphosa was reelected for a second term after his African National Congress (ANC) party signed a deal with John Steenhuisen of the rival Democratic Alliance and other parties.
Key Points
- The ANC had always polled above 50% since the country's first democratic elections in 1994, which saw Nelson Mandela become president.
- In 2024 elections ANC got 40% of the vote, while the DA came second with 21%.
- Two smaller parties, the socially conservative Inkatha Freedom Party and the right-wing Patriotic Alliance, also taken part in the coalition government
