In May, 2024, the US Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) announced new guidelines for H-1B visa holders terminated from their jobs, offering options beyond the 60-day grace period.

H-1B visa holders, upon termination, have options to maintain authorized stay in the US.
Options include filing for a change of non-immigrant status or an adjustment of status application.
Workers may also apply for compelling circumstances leading to a one-year Employment Authorization Document (EAD).
Another option is to become the beneficiary of a nonfrivolous petition to change employer.
Failure to take action within the grace period may require leaving the country.
USCIS had earlier announced changes to the H-1B visa registration process for 2025 to enhance integrity.
These changes aim to improve integrity and streamline application processes, effective from FY 2025 registration period.
