As the New IT (Digital Media) Rules of India came into force, WhatsApp took the Indian government to Court and asked to block regulations.
Indian government has implemented the “new Information Technology (Intermediary Guidelines and Digital Media Ethics Code) Rules 2021”.
New guidelines were released in February and three months’ time was provided to social media platforms to comply with it.
However, Whatsapp considers it as a violation of privacy rights as these guidelines requires social media companies to identify “first originator of information” if asked by the authorities. ....
