Indian Council of Agricultural Research (ICAR)

ICAR is an autonomous organisation under the Department of Agricultural Research and Education (DARE), Ministry of Agriculture & Farmers’ Welfare.

  • It was established on 16th July 1929 as a registered society under the Societies Registration Act, 1860. ICAR is headquartered in New Delhi and was formerly known as the ‘Imperial Council of Agricultural Research’.
  • With 71 agricultural universities across India, ICAR is the largest national agricultural education system in the world and has played a pioneer role in ensuring agricultural self-sufficiency in India by ushering in Green Revolution.
