Harit Dhara

Indian Council of Agricultural Research (ICAR) has developed an anti-methanogenic feed supplement ‘Harit Dhara,’ which can cut down cattle methane emissions by 17-20% and can also result in higher milk production.

About Harit Dhara

  • Prepared from tannins and saponins with a small fraction of “selected oil” as an additive.
  • It acts by decreasing the population of protozoa microbes in the rumen, responsible for hydrogen production and making it available to the archaea (structure similar to bacteria) for reduction of CO2 to methane.

Benefits

  • Reduces the greenhouse gas emission substantially to the tune of 700 liters CO₂ equivalent per day from the ....
