Challenges
- Encourages Rote-Learning: Since a long time, rote learning has been viewed as the main issue in the Indian educational system. Holistic forms of learning are hindered by the de-contextualized repeating of knowledge, memorising without questioning, and a general lack of critical thinking.
- False Farming: The term "foundational" has the unintentional connotation that some facets of reading and numeracy must be mastered before any further learning can take place. Numeracy and literacy are ensured by a solid educational system, but they are not its sole or main goals.
