Ecological Concerns Rise in Western Ghats

A recent study led by the Indian Institute of Science has highlighted the issue of loss of evergreen forest cover in the Western Ghats, one of the world's biodiversity hotspots.

  • The Indian Institute of Science's Energy and Wetlands Research Group launched the Western Ghats Spatial Decision Support System (WGSDSS) to enhance governance transparency and prudent management of the ecologically and hydrologically vital Sahyadri hill ranges.
  • The Web-based Spatial Decision Support System is designed to integrate various criteria analysis and provide effective dissemination of ecological, socio-economic, biodiversity, and environmental information.
