Rani Abbakka: The Unyielding Guardian of Sovereignty and Justice
- Tulunadu is a region in south-western India that lies in the northern part of coastal Kerala.
- Portuguese discovered a sea route to this region and started building forts for defence and ports for trade.
- Royal families of Tulunadu region followed matriarchal system.
- Portuguese and Italian records provide information about two Abbakka queens who ruled Ullala from mid-16th century to the early 17th century identifying them as mother and daughter.
- The elder Abbakka who reigned from 1554 to 1558, fiercely opposed Portuguese political and trade maneuvers. She fought three important battles in 1556, 1558 and 1567. However she was ultimately defeated.
