Indian Diaspora
Diasporas have emerged as powerful entities since they are recognized as ‘soft power’ in the realm of foreign policy strategy and also as an agent or catalyst of economic development of countries of origin beside their active role in the host countries.
- The International Organisation for Migration said in its ‘Global Migration Report 2020’ that India continues to be the largest country of origin of international migrants with a 17.5 million-strong diaspora across the world followed by Mexico (11.8 million) and China (10.7 million), and it received the highest remittance of USD 78.6 billion from Indians living abroad.
