​Thermal Imaging Operations by ISRO’s EOS-08 Satellite

On 19th September 2024, ISRO announced that it has initiated operations of its Electro Optical-Infrared (EOIR) payload aboard the EOS-08 satellite, highlighting its advanced thermal imaging capabilities.

  • Launched on 16th August 2024, through ISRO's Small Satellite Launch Vehicle (SSLV), EOS-08 carries the EOIR payload, which represents a significant advancement in thermal imaging technology.
  • The EOIR payload includes mid-wave infrared (MIR) and long-wave infrared (LWIR) channels, developed by the Space Applications Centre (SAC-ISRO) to enhance thermal imaging performance.
