IISc Develops Light-Charged Supercapacitor Technology
In September 2024, researchers from the Indian Institute of Science (IISc) created an innovative supercapacitor capable of charging through light, offering exciting applications for various electronic devices.
- The newly designed supercapacitor, developed by IISc’s Department of Instrumentation and Applied Physics (IAP), is capable of harnessing energy from light, making it suitable for powering devices like streetlights and self-powered sensors.
- Unlike traditional capacitors, supercapacitors use electrochemical phenomena to store a significantly higher amount of energy, enhancing their overall efficiency and functionality.
