States & UTs to Notify Centre’s Guidelines on School Safety
On 24th September, 2024, the Supreme Court (SC) directed the States and the Union Territories to implement the Centre’s guidelines on safety and security of children in schools issued by the Union Ministry of Education in 2021.
Rationale
- The SC’s directions came in the wake of recent sexual assault incidents of children in some schools.
- Further, according to the NGO ‘Bachpan Bachao Andolan’, only five states have implemented the Centre’s guidelines.
