Crime against Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes
On 24th September, 2024, the Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment published an annual report under the Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes (Prevention of Atrocities) Act, 1989 (PoA Act) for the year 2022.
Major Findings
Total Crimes
- The annual report under PoA Act indicates that 52,766 cases of crimes against SC communities were registered.
States
- Nearly 97.7% of all cases of atrocities against Scheduled Castes in 2022 were reported from 13 States, with Uttar Pradesh, Rajasthan and Madhya Pradesh recording the highest number of such crimes, according to a new government report.
