The survival and flowering of Indian democracy owes a great deal to the freedom and vigour of our Press. This perhaps has been carrying forward the tradition of media’s role in educating Indian masses during the great struggle for independence as authoritarianism flourishes, not only by stifling opposition, but also by systematically suppressing information.
