QakBot Malware Network
In August 2023, a global malware network used for ransomware attacks was taken down by the FBI and European law enforcement agencies.
- QakBot, a well-known Windows malware, managed to infiltrate and control over 700,000 computers on a global scale, where it conducted financial fraud and distributed ransomware.
- Operation Duck Hunt represents a collaborative international endeavour that brought together law enforcement bodies from the United States, France, Germany, Latvia, Romania, the Netherlands, and the United Kingdom to fight the malware.
- The operation successfully confiscated cryptocurrency profits exceeding $8.6 million, which had been illicitly acquired through various unlawful activities.
