Per and Polyfluoroalkyl Substances (PFAS)
PFAS, sometimes known as "forever chemicals," are substances that have carbon chains that are partially or entirely fluorinated and have varying lengths. They are difficult for the environment to break down because of the strong carbon-fluorine linkages they contain.
- PFAS like perfluorooctane sulfonic acid (PFOS) and perfluorooctanoic acid (PFOA) listed under Stockholm Convention on Persistent Organic Pollutants (their production and use are restricted or eliminated in the Parties.)
- The presence of PFAS in both human and animal blood, high exposure levels linked to health risks like reduced fertility, developmental effects in children, interference with body hormones, elevated cholesterol levels, liver damage, kidney ....
