Green Permits

Green permits are required for infrastructure projects in order to obtain environmental clearance, or an environment impact assessment. An environment impact assessment (EIA) is a study that estimates how a proposed activity or project would affect the environment.

  • The EIA notification was initially created in India in 1994 under the Environment (Protection) Act, 1986.
  • Upon completion of the EIA report, the investor contacts the relevant State Pollution Control Board (SPCB) and State Forest Department (if the location involves use of forestland).
