Blue Flag Beaches/Certification
The Blue Flag Beach Certification (BFBC) is awarded by the Denmark-based non-profit Foundation for Environmental Education or FEE to promote sustainability in the tourism sector, through environmental education, environmental protection and other sustainable development practices.
- It is awarded to beaches, marinas and sustainable boating tourism operators.
- The award is based on compliance to four main categories i.e., Environmental Education and Information; Water Quality; Environmental Management; and Safety and Services.
- In India, we have 10 beaches with BFBC i.e., Shivrajpur beach (Gujarat), Ghoghala beach (Diu), Padubidri and Kasarkod beach (Karnataka), Thundi beach and Kadmat beach (Lakshadweep), Kappad beach (Kerala), Kovalam beach (Tamil Nadu), ....
