Shikari Devi Wildlife Sanctuary's Designated as Eco-Sensitive Zones
- The Government of India has recently established eco-sensitive zones (ESZs) around the Shikari Devi Wildlife Sanctuary in Mandi district, Himachal Pradesh.
- The sanctuary, covering 29.94 sq km, was established in 1962 for wildlife conservation.
- The ESZ covers 43 villages from the Nachan and Karsog Forest Divisions, with human activities restricted, except for agriculture, to minimize human-wildlife conflict and deforestation.
- The sensitive zone extends 50 meters to 2 km around the sanctuary, with strict regulations on commercial mining, pollution, deforestation, and major development projects.
