India and Saudi Arabia Sign Bilateral Agreement for Haj 2024
On 7th January, 2024, India and Saudi Arabia inked a bilateral pact allocating a quota of 1,75,025 pilgrims for the 2024 Haj pilgrimage.
- 1,40,020 seats are reserved for Haj Committee pilgrims and 35,005 for private operators.
- India's digital initiatives for Haj pilgrims were praised, and Saudi Arabia offered to extend support.
- The bilateral discussions also included plans for improving medical facilities for pilgrims.
- Discussions covered the Indian proposal to encourage women without Mehram to participate in the Haj pilgrimage.
- The meeting explored ways to enhance logistics and monitoring mechanisms for the convenience of pilgrims.
