Uniform Civil Code

Uniform Civil Code (UCC) is applicable to all religious communities in their personal matters such as marriage, divorce, inheritance, adoption, etc. provides for one law for the entire country.

  • Constitutional Provisions: Article 44 (DPSP) talks about UCC.
  • Judicial Pronouncements: Supreme Court in their judgements in cases like Shah Bano case (1985), Sarla Mudgal Case (1995), Daniel Latifi Case, has asked the government to move towards a UCC.
