National Human Rights Commission

The National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) was established in 1993 as a statutory body under the provisions of the Protection of Human Rights Act of 1993.

Composition

  • A Chairperson who is to be a retired Chief Justice of India
  • A Member who is/has been a Judge of Supreme Court of India
  • Another Member who is/has been a Chief Justice of a High Court
  • Two Members i.e., candidates with the knowledge or practical experience in the matters of Human Rights
  • Deemed Members (Ex-officio Members) from National Commission for Minorities, National Commission for Scheduled Castes, National Commission for Scheduled Tribes, and National Commission for Women
