Central Information Commission (CIC)

Under the provision of Section-12 of RTI Act 2005, the Central Government by notification in the Official Gazette constituted the Central Information Commission.

  • The Central Information Commission consists of the Chief Information Commissioner (CIC) and not more than 10 Central Information Commissioners.
  • The Chief Information Commissioner and Central Information Commissioners are appointed by the President of India on the recommendations of – a committee consisting of the Prime Minister as Chairperson, the Leader of Opposition in the Lok Sabha and a Union Cabinet Minister nominated by the Prime Minister.
