Fertilizers are substances or mixtures applied to soil or plants to provide essential nutrients like nitrogen, phosphorus, and potassium, promoting plant growth, health, and productivity in agriculture and gardening.

Fertilizer Consumption in India

  • In the fiscal year 2022-23, total fertilizer nutrient consumption in India reached 29.84 million metric tonnes (MT), a slight increase from the previous year's 29.80 million MT, marking a 0.2% growth.
  • The consumption of nitrogen (N) and phosphorus (P2O5) saw a rise of 4% and 1.2%, respectively, totalling 20.21 million MT and 7.92 million MT. However, potassium (K2O) consumption dropped sharply by 32.2% to 1.72 million MT.
