​World’s First Co2 to Methanol Plant

On 8th December, 2024, NTPC, India’s largest power producer, launched the world’s first CO₂-to-methanol conversion plant at its Vindhyachal facility (Madhya Pradesh), marking a significant advancement in carbon management and green fuel technologies.

  • Both the CO2 capture plant and the CO2-to-methanol plant are the first of their kind in the world, marking a historic step in carbon management and sustainable fuel production.

CO₂-to-Methanol Conversion Process

  • Carbon Dioxide Capture: CO2 is captured from industrial sources like power plants or directly from the atmosphere.
