  • Revolt of 1857: It started on May 10, 1857 in Meerut. The forces of Indore joined the rebellion against the wishes of their king. Mangal Pandey was hanged in Barrackpore (presently in West Bengal).
    • Tatya Tope (also known as Tantiya Tope and Ram Chandra Pandurang Rao) joined the rebellion in Jhansi and Kanpur.
    • Jayajirao Scindia had sought refuge from the British in Agra.
  • Ramesh Chandra Dutt: He was a famous economist and historian. He had passed the Indian Civil Service (ICS) examination. He was elected as the President of Indian National Congress in 1899.
    • He translated Ramayana and Mahabharata into English.
