UK Officially Joins Trans-Pacific Trade Agreement
On 15th December 2024, the United Kingdom (UK) officially became the 12th member of the Comprehensive and Progressive Agreement for Trans-Pacific Partnership (CPTPP), marking a significant step in its post-Brexit global trade strategy.
Key Developments
- CPTPP Membership: The UK joins 11 other countries, including Australia, Japan, Canada, and Mexico, in the CPTPP, a trade agreement aimed at promoting economic growth through enhanced trade and investment links across the Pacific region.
- Successor to TPP: The CPTPP is the revised version of the Trans-Pacific Partnership (TPP), which was initially negotiated during U.S. President Obama’s tenure but was abandoned by President Trump in 2017. ....
