​Gujarat’s 'Gharchola' Craft gets GI Tag

On 29th November 2024, Gujarat’s iconic craft, 'Gharchola,' was awarded the Geographical Indication (GI).

  • The official announcement was made during the GI and Beyond – Virasat Se Vikas Tak programme in New Delhi, organised by the Ministry of Textiles’ Handlooms Development Commissioner.
  • Now, the state's total GI tags have reached 27, with Gharchola marking the 23rd for the handicraft sector.

  • Origin: Originating from the Khambat (Cambay) region of Gujarat, Gharcholas have been used for years in Gujarati weddings.
