XPoSat: India's First Dedicated Polarimetry Mission
The Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) marked January 1, 2024, with the successful launch of the PSLV-C58 / X-ray Polarimeter Satellite (XPoSat) Mission. It marks India's inaugural scientific satellite dedicated to probing X-ray emissions from celestial sources.
XPoSat Mission Objectives
- Mission Scope: XPoSat endeavours to measure X-ray polarization within the 8-30 keV energy band, targeting around 50 cosmic sources.
- Comprehensive Studies: The mission aims for prolonged spectral and temporal analysis of cosmic X-ray sources, leveraging X-ray polarization to unravel the radiation mechanisms and geometries of celestial objects.
