Handloom and Handicraft Artisans Preserving Traditional and Cultural Heritage
- Handicrafts and handloom sectors come under unorganized economic activities and provide livelihood to about 65 lakh artisans and weavers. These include 25.46 lakh women working in the handloom sector and 20 lakh women working in the handicraft sector across the country.
- Handloom is the process of weaving cloth using hand-operated looms, while handicrafts are items made by skilled artisans using traditional techniques.
- More than 35 lakh handloom workers and 27 lakh handicraft artisans work in India's handloom sector.
