Types of Rare Diseases in India
Genetic and Congenital Disorders
- These are disorders caused by abnormalities in an individual’s DNA, often inherited from parents. Examples includes –
- Thalassemia: A blood disorder involving less than normal amounts of an oxygen-carrying protein.
- Hemophilia: A bleeding disorder due to lack of blood-clotting proteins.
- Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy (DMD): A severe type of muscular dystrophy characterized by progressive muscle degeneration and weakness.
