National Medical Commission
The National Medical Commission came into force from 25 September 2020 repealing the nearly 64-year-old Indian Medical Council Act 1956.
About NMC
- NMC was constituted under NMC Act, 2019, and replaced the Medical Council of India (MCI) as the country’s medical education regulator.
- One of the major reforms under the NMC is uniform National Eligibility-cum-Entrance Test (NEET) for admission to under-graduate and post-graduate super-specialty medical education in all medical institutions regulated under the Act. The NMC will specify the manner of conducting common counselling for admission in all such medical institutions.
