Government to Sell Stakes in 7 CPSEs

The central government has drawn up a plan recently to bring down its stakes in a clutch of large central public sector undertakings (CPSEs) to below 51% in Financial Year 2020.

  • Seven PSEs have been identified by the government which includes Engineers India (EIL), Container Corporation (ConCor), Nalco and four Maharatna companies, namely IOC, NTPC, BPCL and GAIL. In all these CPSEs, the government’s stake is now below 55%.
  • Of above mentioned firms the government plans to offload its entire 53.29% stake in BPCL worth a little more than Rs 40,000 crore.
