Hong Kong Controversial Bill Scrapped
On 4th September 2019 Hong Kong leader Carrie Lam withdrew an extradition Bill that triggered months of often violent protests. The Bill would have allowed extraditions of Hong Kong citizens to mainland China where courts are controlled by the Chinese Communist Party.
- The introduction of the Bill sparked widespread unrest and drove the Chinese controlled autonomous region to the edge of anarchy as the government repeatedly refused to back down. It igniting pitched battles across the city which saw the arrests of more than 1,000 protesters.
