New Bacteria Found on ISS Named After Indian Scientist Ajmal Khan
According to a recent study, four strains of bacteria have been discovered at the International Space Station out of which three strains were previously unknown to science.
Key Findings
- Scientists of NASA’s Jet Propulsion Laboratory have identified four strains of bacteria in the samples collected from ISS, all belonging to Methanobacteriaceae family usually found in soil and freshwater.
- One of the strains, Methylorubrum rhodesianum is already known while the other three are from an entirely new species, and are relatives of Methylobacterium indicum – a bacterium isolated from rice that can use basic one-carbon compounds like methanol or methane as ....
