Gucchi or Morel

  • A Geographical Indication (GI) tag has been sought for one of the world's most expensive mushrooms growing in Jammu and Kashmir.
  • The mushroom, locally known as Gucchi, or Morel, is a spongy, edible fungus valued at over Rs 20,000 per Kg.
  • It is found in the temperate forests of the Dodo district of J&K.
  • It is said to have medicinal and anti-inflammatory properties.
  • It is also considered a rich source of calcium, vitamin B and carbohydrates.
