Masood Azhar Sanctioned by UNSC Sanctions Committee

Jaish-e-Mohammad chief Masood Azhar has been listed as a designated terrorist by the UN Security Council 1267 Committee on 1 May 2019

  • The P-3 or group of three permanent UNSC members, the U.S., the U.K. and France, had co-sponsored the listing request at the 1267 Committee on February 27, weeks after the Pulwama attack on February 14.
  • Significantly, the reasons for listing did not mention the Pulwama attack for which the JeM had claimed responsibility and which was mentioned as the reason in the listing request.
  • India had moved listing request for Azhar at the 1267 Committee in 2009, 2016, 2017 ....
